Stir Market Kids Menu
As a mother of three children, I long gave up the idea that I could enjoy a leisurely brunch with the kids. If I did attempt to brunch with my babies, it involved several mimosas just so I could relax and not nag them to finish their plates while neglecting my own.
I’ll admit, I’m envious of my single and childless friends’ brunch posts on Instagram come weekends that show off their gourmet avocado toasts festooned with radish slivers, their frothy cappuccinos, sparkling Prosecco mimosas and comely stacks of Meyer lemon pancakes. Meanwhile, as I gaze into the world of Instagram through the screen of my phone, I'm making umpteen banana pancakes for my kids at home, with nary one left for me.
Then there is Stir Market. This classic European style food hall on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles is a great way for us Angeleno parental units to enjoy epicurean delights such as Moroccan Baked Eggs made with Merguez sausage, cage-free farm eggs, tomatoes, chickpeas and peppers served with grilled bread, or the Farro & Kale Breakfast Bowl made with a poached egg, shaved carrots, dill yogurt and cotija cheese. If you want to brunch with the kids and actually enjoy your food, Stir Market has your family table covered, complete with crayons, cookies and your morning coffee.
The new Kids Menu is well designed for hungry munchkins to focus on their food. The tempting offerings nourish with wholesome ingredients like the Stir Market Yummy Bowl, made with roast chicken over brown rice, served with heirloom carrots and soy teriyaki sauce.
You won’t worry about them eating their veggies (a side of roasted broccolini!) while you linger over your Wild Mushroom & Asparagus Fritatta and have a second glass of sparkling rosé.
The After School Cinnamon Toast is an indulgence you can share, though on the grown up menu the Strawberry & Ricotta Toast with Herbed Honey on Multigrain appealed to my eye. An absolute must is the Meyer Lemon Pancakes, which is offered on the kids menu as a small portioned “junior” plate to the adult size which is served with maple whipped crème fraiche and candied lemon.
My youngest daughter surprised me by inhaling the Grilled Cheese with Sliced Apples. She’s one of those kids who never liked grilled cheese. (I know. It never made sense to me.) Apples are her favorite fruit, so this was a win. I felt much better about allowing my daughter the sweet treats after that. My guy--- known as "daddy" to his youngest daughter--- was happy as a clam with his many cups of Intelligentsia coffee. I'm a tea drinker when it comes to caffeinated drinks, and at Stir Market they serve Kilogram teas.
Stir Market made the only grilled cheese sandwich my picky 7 year old ever ate entirely with gusto. I was very pleased at how leisurely our brunch went along and finished with happy smiles and bellies. And those Meyer Lemon Pancakes? Oh, yes. I finished them without one bit of control or envious glance at my Instagram feed.
