Best Beauty Food Smoothie Ever

“As if you were on fire from within /the moon lives in the lining of your skin.” (Pablo Neruda)

Aphrodisiacs are superfoods for our soul. We want to feel good by what we put into our bodies, but in the pursuit to eat healthy we sometimes forget to slow down and experience the pleasure of food. An aphrodisiac beauty smoothie is full of antioxidants, skin-plumping good fats and nutrients to add to our daily glow. Step into my kitchen and try my beauty food smoothie to make it your own custom recipe blend.

Avocado is one of my favorite superfoods – it’s laden with skin-nourishing vitamins as well as antioxidants. It contains those good fats (monounsaturated fats) that are cholesterol free and is considered an oil rather than a solid fat. I eat one every day (avocado toasts are a must in my morning ritual). Yes, I’m lucky that I live in California! There are avocado a-plenty in my local supermarket and farmers’ market.

Almonds are rich in vitamin E, so using almond milk in your smoothie is a great way to get that beautifying nutrient. I add coconut water and the flesh inside to boost my beauty as well. If you don’t know how amazing coconuts are, I can go on and on. Where I live we have many Asian supermarkets so they are easy to find fresh, but I’ve noticed that standard supermarkets are now carrying coconuts in the produce section. Speaking of Asian superfoods, goji berries are wonderful for women. It's a sweet and tart little red fruit, dried like a raisin and nutrient dense. Chinese beauties snack on them (I've learned from eating with these lovely women) and it's believed to keep your youthful glow. Anti-aging powers plus protein, vitamin C, amino acids and much more. Sometimes I soak them in my green tea, but blended with the cherries and blueberries it takes on a new level of plant-powered pow!

Spinach is another superfood with a wealth of potassium, iron and calcium. Add greens like kale if you don’t have spinach on hand (and even some crisp romaine lettuce) for more green power if you’d like. Lucuma powder is made from the Peruvian fruit. It makes my smoothies creamy and sweet while keeping my blood sugar stable. Sweeten your drink even more (if you crave it) by adding honey (it naturally hydrates our skin), agave or stevia. I make a blender amount and pour this into two Mason jars to take along with me.

Take time in making this beauty food smoothie. I want you to really enjoy this.
